Acquire Real Traders, Not Mercenary Wallets, With Proof of Trader

How venues use Proof of Trader to pay for outcomes instead of signups, with offers tiered by verified volume, first-to-target rewards and sybil-resistant binding.

Venues acquire real traders with Proof of Trader by targeting offers at traders whose history is already verified across 49 venues, tiering rewards by that verified volume, and paying only when a trader hits a trading target. Mercenary wallets have no history to show, and each wallet or exchange account counts on one passport only, so the budget reaches people who actually trade. Proof of Trader is the record; this post covers how venues structure offers on it.

The mercenary wallet problem

Every venue that has run an incentive programme has seen the same curve: a sharp rise in wallets and volume while rewards run, then a fall when they stop. A large share of the budget went to accounts that were only there for the reward.

The root cause is the targeting input. A venue looking at a new wallet sees an address and nothing else. It cannot tell a trader with years of perps history on three other venues from a script spun up for the campaign. So it pays both, and pays the script more, because the script optimises the metric.

Voltrade has run trading campaigns for venues including dYdX, Lighter, GMX, KuCoin, BloFin and Derive, routing over $1 billion in volume. Across those campaigns the leak was consistent: incentives went to wallets that were never going to stay. User acquisition for perp DEXs covers the wider channel mix; Proof of Trader is about fixing the targeting.

What a venue sees with Proof of Trader

Instead of an address, a venue's offer meets a verified record: lifetime volume, PnL, balance, fees, trades per month, average trade size and active-since date, split by venue and instrument. The record is built from fills and venue-reported totals, not self-reported.

It covers perp DEXs read from a wallet (Hyperliquid, Lighter, GMX, Aster, Derive and others, plus Solana venues such as Jupiter Perps and Pacifica), dYdX, Polymarket and Outcome, onchain swaps on eight chains, and centralised exchanges and key-based venues through read-only API keys. The full list is in what is Proof of Trader.

That matters for targeting. An options venue can reach traders with options history. A prediction market can reach Polymarket traders. A CEX can reach high-volume perps traders who are not yet its users.

How offers are structured

Tiered by verified volume

Partners publish offers with tiers from Starter to Legendary, based on the trader's verified volume. A trader with a stronger record sees a stronger offer. That lets a venue spend more on the traders most likely to be valuable and less on light accounts, without asking anyone to fill in a form.

Paid for outcomes, not signups

The trader chooses which offers to activate and can run several at once. The reward is paid when they hit the target. A venue isn't paying for a connection or a registration; it is paying for trading that happened on its venue.

First to fill, where you want urgency

Some rewards are first to fill. Activating an offer doesn't reserve a reward: the first traders to hit the target get it. That caps the budget and rewards traders who act, without a lottery or a fixed allocation per wallet.

Every completed deal is shareable

Each completed deal makes a shareable card. Traders who hit a target have something to post, which gives the venue distribution it didn't pay a separate channel for.

How sybil resistance works

Two rules protect the budget:

  • One account, one passport. A wallet or exchange account counts on one passport only. Once a reward is paid on it, that account is bound to that passport for good, so the same history can't be claimed twice from two accounts.
  • Only trading counts. Perps, options, prediction markets (at the price paid per share), stablecoin-quoted spot fills and onchain swaps count. Transfers, bridges, deposits, liquidity, NFT trades and payouts don't.

Competition volume, including Voltrade's Base competitions, counts as a minimum per venue and never on top of what the venue reports. Wash-trading resistance in volume campaigns covers the other defences venues layer on.

How the genesis partners structured their offers

Six genesis partners launched with Proof of Trader on 3 November 2026, with offers running until 30 November 2026, 23:59 UTC. Their structures show the range of options.

PartnerVerticalStructureWho it targets
TxFlowPerps15% of trading fees back plus pointsEvery verified trader
DeriveOptionsUp to 1,500 DRVOptions traders new to Derive
BloFinCEX30% fee cashback, or up to VIP5 plus $115 per $1M taker volumeAll traders; VIP track for high volume
OutcomePrediction marketsUp to a $600 volume bonusPolymarket traders
ProprProp tradingUp to 20% off challengesTraders buying prop challenges
Trigr.xyzAI tradingUp to 6 months of Pro plus pointsTraders launching first agents

A few patterns stand out:

  • Fee-based rewards scale with the trader. TxFlow's fee share and BloFin's cashback cost the venue in proportion to the trading it receives.
  • Conquest offers target a competitor's users. Outcome's offer is aimed at Polymarket traders; Derive's at options traders who haven't used Derive.
  • Two tracks for two audiences. BloFin runs a cashback track and a VIP track for high-volume traders in the same offer.
  • Product rewards work too. Propr and Trigr.xyz reward with discounts and subscription time rather than cash.

Trader value and pricing your offer

The passport estimates what a trader's flow is worth to platforms across fee rebates, token incentives, trading bonuses and competition prizes. For a venue, that is a reference point: traders can see what the market offers for their flow, so an offer far below it is easy to pass over and one far above it may be overpaying.

The usual cost discipline still applies. Compare the reward to the fees and retained activity it brings. Measuring campaign ROI walks through the arithmetic.

Getting added and becoming a partner

Two routes:

  1. Get your venue read. If your venue isn't in the passport yet, traders can request it from the passport page, and venues can ask to be added.
  2. Publish an offer. Start on the partners page to talk through targeting, tiers, targets and budget.

You don't need traders to adopt anything new on your side. They bring their passport, and your offer is shown to the tiers you choose.

FAQ

How is Proof of Trader different from a points programme for acquisition?

A points programme measures activity inside your venue, which new wallets can produce cheaply. Proof of Trader shows each trader's verified history across 49 venues, so offers can target and tier by real trading before any reward is paid.

Do we pay for signups?

No. Traders activate offers and are rewarded when they hit the target, so the reward is tied to trading on your venue rather than to a connection or registration.

What does first to fill mean?

Activating an offer doesn't reserve a reward. The first traders to hit the target get it, which caps the budget and rewards traders who act.

How does Proof of Trader stop the same trader claiming twice?

Each wallet or exchange account counts on one passport only. Once a reward is paid on it, the account is bound to that passport for good.

Can we target traders from a specific venue?

The record is split by venue and instrument, so offers can be aimed at a specific audience, such as Outcome's offer for Polymarket traders or Derive's for options traders new to Derive.

How do we become a partner?

Start on the Voltrade partners page. If your venue isn't read by the passport yet, venues can also ask to be added.
